The last stop of the Flat Stanley tour of New York is the ever-bustling Grand Central Station. Currently celebrating its 100th birthday, Grand Central is a testament to the importance of protecting our nation’s beautiful monuments. We happened upon Nick Cave’s colorful horses hanging out in Vanderbilt Hall. Art and architecture infused into everyday life is one of the many reasons why I miss living in New York.
Continuing along on the Flat Stanley tour of the city, another one of my favorite New York landmarks is the public library with its exquisite architecture and sculptures, an enduring symbol of boundless learning and wisdom.
Last weekend, with the recent snowfall barely melted and the lingering winter chill, we dashed off to New York for the quickest of visits. Coincidentally {and rather amusingly}, a friend’s daughter asked us to help with her Flat Stanley project and we took the opportunity to test out the new camera at a few of New York’s famous landmarks. First up: Central Park, and despite its barren tree branches, still possessed a quiet sparkle with the undeniable whisper of warm days ahead.
A design and decor must in New York City is the inimitable ABC Home, filled with floor after floor of dreamy inspiration. Years ago, as a student, I recall perusing its endless displays of ingenuity and lavishness that prompted many a day dream building impossibly sumptuous rooms. On a recent visit to my beloved city, I stopped by the store briefly and was once again able to revel in its glorious grandeur … bowls of stardust, whimsical little mice, and all the French inspired furnishings one could possibly want. Have a splendid Easter weekend …
The new year is off to a rather busy start with big projects on the horizon and the intense feeling of ever increasing responsibilities, compounded with the fleeting nature of time and how there seems to never be enough of it. Quite unbelievably, approaching the one-year anniversary of this blog next month, and apologetically, have some serious catching up to do… Our recent trip to New York yielded these images of some of our favorite haunts and architectural gems. To begin, Todd English’s food hall in the storied Plaza Hotel is ideal for foodies on-the-go. Having worked in mid-town for years and lamented the lack of better pick-up food options, this spot is an easy winner with something for everyone.
