ABC Kitchen & ABC Home

I recently had a chance to revisit one of my favorite restaurants in New York City: ABC Kitchen, a place that is so perfectly designed that one feels right at home with its lovely antiqued finishes and French countryside vibe.  Thanks to Chef Jean-Georges, I would gladly return again and again for the divinely prepared food.  Here’s how we lunched on that one fine day.ABC KitchenABC KitchenABC Kitchen

As you know, ABC Home happens to be my ultimate design haven, so of course, we did some browsing, and as usual, the scene was simply delightful and inspiring.  From yards of velvety ribbons and whimsical pillows to shelves of sparkly crystal and ceramics, exquisite treasures were stashed around every bend.  Obviously, the reocurring debate over want versus need ensued.ABC HomeABC KitchenABC Home

Holiday House 2012, NYC

The Holiday House is an annual designer room and tabletop show, and for five years in a row, it has been held in a historic townhouse on the Upper East Side where the country’s premier designers join forces to create truly enchanting spaces.  This year, proceeds from the event benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  Let us take a tour, shall we? By the front door, I already knew this was not your average New York townhouse.  It is triple the width with magnificent pre-war architectural details.  Marvelously grand, indeed.

Upon entry, guests are greeted by a spacious foyer with numerous seating areas, a glittery geometric chandelier, and vibrant modern art.

Next, a living room of grand proportions done in high contrast black and white where I imagine evenings of flowing champagne and sparkling jewel-toned gowns made even more beautiful against stark white furnishings.

A study for the lady of the house?  Check.  A room to sew and craft?  Check.  There was even a room for a very elegant teenage girl done in varying shades of lavender.  Perhaps Bergdorf’s is the only place she shops {and who can really blame her}?

My favorite room is by Tobi Fairley, who’s work you might recall from a tabletop event earlier this year.  It is unabashedly feminine and sweet, but also interesting and approachable.  I could spend all my time in here …

An opulent spiraling staircase is a must in a house of this scale, but I rather like this one’s austere quality.  Leading up to the master bedroom is a charming wallpapered foyer in traditional English florals.

Another look at my favorite room from a different angle.  Adore the sofa with its contrast trim and the lovely green accent lamp thrown into a room of pale pink.  Perfection.
