A recent favorite restaurant discovery is The Coterie Room, offering new American cuisine with French influences. It can be difficult to serve good comfort food in a way that pushes the boundaries, lending an air of haute cuisine to dishes that are so very familiar (e.g., mac n’ cheese), but chefs Brian McCracken and Dana Tough do it with aplomb. First, the space is modern and warm, wrapped by a wall of floor to ceiling casement windows. I am a sucker for chandeliers and this one is no exception. Add to that a tiled open kitchen and an old-fashioned bar and the atmosphere is just my speed. Second, the food was delightful and delicious from start to finish. If we did not have to rush off, we would have lingered and ordered dessert. Next time, for sure.
