Sakura in UW Quad

Once again, we joined the throngs of sakura {cherry blossom} admirers that gather at University of Washington’s Liberal Arts Quadrangle each year.  It was Easter Sunday and the sun was shining, illuminating the clouds of cotton candy pink blossoms in full bloom. Take a look at last year’s sakura post taken with my iPhone compared to this year’s taken with the new Nikon D600.  Which do you prefer?  Is it true that from an aerial view the trees form the letter W?  Something I will have to verify and capture … maybe next year.

Notes from the Weekend

Despite a rather blustery weekend, hints of spring abound as we peered over Queen Anne Hill at the pretty Seattle cityscape below.  Continuing to discover the endless capabilities of the new Nikon D600 camera, especially on Saturday during Andy’s crew team {Sammamish Rowing Association} race at Green Lake.  CHI Fotographi’s arsenal of telephoto lenses made the race images possible.

Notes from the Weekend

Recently decided to take my appreciation of photography to the next level and invested in a Nikon D600 camera.  Thrilled to take it on the road this past weekend … on a quick road trip to Portland, OR, passing through Olympia, WA, on the way.  Although we were short on time, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Nines Hotel, a place brimming with contemporary style.  The following is a glimpse at a few first images captured using the new DSLR.  Looking forward to sharing more soon.

Lunar New Year 2013

Happy Lunar New Year!  We welcomed the year of the snake by partaking in some of the festivities in Seattle’s International District.  There were lion dances, fire crackers, kids dressed up in silk finery, and of course, lots of food to be eaten.  It is a tradition in my family to gather around the table on New Year’s eve over a big simmering pot of soup into which you toss meat, vegetables, tofu, and whatever else you wish, cooking and eating as you go.  Although culinary skills are not required, the time prepping and chopping can be burdensome, so this year {with family scattered about}, we opted to go out to Gourmet Noodle Bowl and were quite pleased.  May the new year bring lots of prosperity, good health, and happiness to all.

Scenes from New York City

The new year is off to a rather busy start with big projects on the horizon and the intense feeling of ever increasing responsibilities, compounded with the fleeting nature of time and how there seems to never be enough of it.  Quite unbelievably, approaching the one-year anniversary of this blog next month, and apologetically, have some serious catching up to do…  Our recent trip to New York yielded these images of some of our favorite haunts and architectural gems.  To begin, Todd English’s food hall in the storied Plaza Hotel is ideal for foodies on-the-go.  Having worked in mid-town for years and lamented the lack of better pick-up food options, this spot is an easy winner with something for everyone.
